Preparing for Boston's Arrival

Today I stocked up on all the things you need for a new puppy: kibbles, collar, harness, and lots of TOYS. I was so happy when the pillow I ordered on etsy arrived. It's upcycled from a t-shirt and I bought it at My T-Shirt Pillow .

So I set up Boston's little spot next to our bed and told Kiki, "These are for Boston." I left the room and when I came back, Kiki was on the bed with a guilty look on her face and the smallest of the toys.

Of course I played with her! I realized that there was no way of keeping the toys from her, and that actually, since she will be the 'boss' of the two dogs, all the toys will probably be 'hers' anyways.

I am so curious how it will be once Boston is here. I wonder how it will be for Kiki; if she will be upset, happy, or indifferent. Change always makes me nervous. But mostly, I am excited, and hopeful that this new member of the family will just bring more love and joy.

When we were done playing, I caught this lovely shot of a contemplative Kiki.

I love her so much, my heart just bursts sometimes. I am so blessed to have her in my life. We are together 24 hours a day, so close, and so connected. I hope this bond remains strong when Boston is here.

  7. yay! so excited for your new puppy to arrive! kiki is the cutest thing ever, she makes me want to squeeeeeel! I have been with my girly like you are with your pups since she was 7 weeks old and she is now almost 9... but since our business is on the road, I have had to be away from her a lot which I HATE! I miss her so much when we are gone, I am thinking about getting her a service dog tag so she can come with us everywhere!!!

  13. Congrats! It's going to be so wonderful having two pups. You'll find that there's more love in your heart than even you realized. Having two is such a pleasure because they make each other so happy.....and that brings even more joy to you! I can't wait to see the photos!

  15. Darling Dawn, not long now! The excitement and delight of a new puppy, how truly wonderful.I'm sure that Kiki will be fine, after the settling in bit - she'll probably ignore him at first. Also you may be surprised when he grows up, he may turn out to be the boss after all! Of my mum & dad's 3 dogs, it's the tiny Norfolk terrier who rules the roost (Jojo, the Kiki lookalike, is content to just 'be' and not try and take sides!!) Alice sends a special lick to her Austrian friend as she awaits her new brother and I send special love to you xox ps just a thought but my Mum always says that if you want a baby, get a puppy and one will follow! It worked for my youngest sister after she had a similar sad experience to you.So maybe an extra bonus xox Rachel

kiki looks adorable..i know how much you love her cause that is how i felt about buddy...you know that nearly took me apart when he passed away....5 months ago yesterday...i talk to him everyday...his little ashes sits right behind me on the piano with a bouquet of fresh flowers at all times...i was so worried about getting teddy...should i do it..at times i thought maybe it was a mistake...no mistake about it..the BEST thing we ever did...i was worried that i would compare him to buddy..or maybe not even like him at all...well, it was love at first sight...i ADORE him so MUCH !!!

little Boston will fit right in...all they need is lots of love, snuggles and kisses....

i know you must be so excited...i remember the day we went to get teddy...i relive it in my mind daily...what a HAPPY day...
you have so much to look forward to...it is the BEST !!!!!!

  19. Our little yorkie, Ruby, was about nine months old when we bought her 'brother', Frodo. At first she sulked, but by the evening, when they had played together, they became inseperable. They still fight over toys, though!
